  1. About us

Become a Volunteer

Become a volunteer with the Little Flower Penny Dinners which is one of the longest running charities in the historic area of the Liberties in Dublin 8. Our volunteers are the ones that make it possible for us to continue feeding the people in Dublin that need us the most.

Volunteer with us and become a part of our wonderful team. We provide flexible and team-based opportunities for volunteers, you can even come by our premises on 11 Meath Street and have a chat with our team to find something that suits you.

Volunteering Opportunities

Typically volunteers help out 1-2 mornings per week. We offer 2 types of volunteering opportunities that are available on Monday to Friday from 10:00am - 1:00pm.

1. Meals on Wheels

This is a service that delivers meals to the homes of people that may struggle to leave their house or cannot necessarily travel the distance to our lunch service which is served every weekday at 12:00pm. As a volunteer you will be able to deliver meals with our van or assist the delivery driver with brining meals to people.

Please note that you would need a clean driving licence and both volunteers delivering the meals need to be reasonably fit since the role includes lifting and occasionally the need to walk up stairs to access apartments.

2. In-House Service

Every Monday to Friday we serve a warm meal on our premises and we also prepare all the meals from scratch in-house. For this volunteering role you can help out with serving food to our guests, clearing tables and returning crockery/cutlery to the kitchen for washing as well as helping out with cleaning the dining area and making sure that everything is set up for the next day.

*Please note that we work with older & vulnerable people and therefore all of our volunteers need to be Garda vetted before commencing work with the Little Flower.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Even a few hours of volunteering per week can have a significant impact on our charity, every helping hand makes a difference.
Our greatest strength is really our team and together as a community of volunteers, we take care of the ones that need it the most in our community.

173 years later and Ireland is still hungry

Despite the notion that hunger is something we left behind way back in the 1800’s, food poverty is still a huge, yet almost hidden problem in modern day Ireland. Over 100,000 children go to bed hungry every night. 20% of parents regularly skip meals to feed their families. Since 2020, the demand for food help increased by 70%. Famine Food Bank is here to provide a stark reminder that hunger isn’t something we left behind 173 years ago.
