National Food Bank Day - 1st September

The Little Flower Penny Dinners are taking part in the National Food Bank Day, which is held annually on the first Friday in September. We are fortunate to have the support from one of our main sponsors, the American company Toast.org, which has invited us to take part this year.

In the aftermath of the pandemic, we've noticed a surge in individuals needing help. Particularly, there has been a noticeable increase in families with children seeking our help. As the school season approaches, the financial burden on parents intensifies as they need to purchase new uniforms and essential supplies. Moreover, the impending colder weather often leads to elevated utility bills, further straining finances. These challenges underscore the continued importance of the Little Flower's services, as more individuals are grappling with financial hardships.

We would therefore like to ask organisations to join us in making a difference by donating non-perishable food items to our charity. These donations will enable us to prepare more meals for those in need and distribute any additional items to the people we serve.

These items may include essentials such as:

  • Tinned food (vegetables, beans, fruit, etc.)
  • Tea bags
  • Packets of biscuits

This is a great opportunity for both small and large organisations to get their employees involved in giving back to their community and it can also be a great team building exercise.

If your organisation would like to take part in the National Food Bank Day and being an integral part of our mission to alleviate food poverty in Dublin. Please contact us on 01 453 6621 or [email protected]

Here are a few ways that your organisation can host a donation event on or around the 1st of September:

Tea & Coffee Morning - Have a tea & coffee morning in the office to encourage people to donate and this is also a good way for the staff in the office to socialise with each other.

Drop-off Point: Set up a specific area in the office where staff can drop off their donations.

Friendly Department Competition: Divide the company into different departments or teams and challenge them to see who can collect the most non-perishable food items. Offer a prize or recognition to the winning team.
